Community Guidelines

How everyone on Coldge is expected to treat each other and what they share. They are part of the Terms of Service.

Last updated: October 20, 2026

01

Why these rules

Coldge is a university community, and it only works when people feel safe and respected.

These guidelines apply everywhere on Coldge, including end-to-end encrypted chats, calls and the University Drive. They are part of the Coldge Terms of Service, so when you accept the Terms you agree to follow them. We change them the way the Terms describe for their own changes.

Coldge serves students in the United Arab Emirates, so UAE law applies to what you post and send here, and so does your university's code of conduct. Some things that seem casual elsewhere, such as photographing people without permission or spreading rumours, are crimes in the UAE. When in doubt, don't post it.

02

The rules

A.Respect people

  • No harassment or bullying. That includes unwanted repeated messages, pile-ons, rating people by their looks, and adding someone to groups to target them.
  • No hate. Don't attack or demean people for their nationality, ethnicity, religion, sect, tribe, gender, disability or background.
  • No threats or extortion. Don't threaten anyone, even as a joke, and never pressure someone with photos or information about them.
  • No sexual harassment. No unwanted sexual comments, messages, requests or images.
  • No doxxing. Don't share someone's phone number, address, location, student ID, schedule or other personal details without their permission.
  • Ask before you photograph, record or share. Don't photograph, film or record people without their consent, even in public places such as lecture halls and campus events. Don't share someone's private messages, photos or recordings without consent, and never edit images to embarrass someone.
  • No impersonation. Don't pretend to be another student, a professor, a university, an organization or Coldge.

B.Respect the law and the UAE

  • Religion. Don't insult or mock Islam or any other religion, its sacred figures, scriptures or practices, in memes and jokes too.
  • The state and its symbols. Don't insult or mock the UAE, its leaders, institutions or national symbols, such as the flag and anthem, and don't attack other countries or stir up division between communities.
  • Public order. No calls for unpermitted protests or gatherings, and nothing that supports terrorism or extremist groups.
  • Public morals. No pornography, nudity or sexually explicit content or links, and no soliciting sex, prostitution or human trafficking.
  • Defamation. Don't accuse a named person of wrongdoing or post naming-and-shaming content, even if you believe it's true. Report it or tell your university instead.
  • Rumours and false news. Don't post or forward unverified claims about exam leaks, outbreaks or campus incidents. Check official sources first.
  • Drugs, weapons and gambling. Don't buy, sell or promote drugs or weapons, or tell people where to get them. No betting for money, including betting pools between friends.
  • Fraud and scams. No fake sales, rental or job scams, phishing links, investment and crypto schemes, or begging for money.
  • Fundraising. Don't collect donations or run charity drives without the licence the law requires; club drives go through your university's process.
  • Surveys. Research surveys and questionnaires need the permit or approval the law and your university require before you share them.
  • Paid promotion. If you're paid or rewarded to promote something, you need the advertising permit UAE law requires. Never promote unlicensed medicines, supplements or weight-loss products.
  • Other people's work. Don't share pirated books, films or live streams, or anyone's photos, art or writing without permission.

C.Keep it honest

  • One real account, and it's yours. No fake accounts, and don't buy, sell, share or lend accounts. Never give anyone your sign-in codes or password.
  • No spam or manipulation. No mass messages, repeated posts, bots, fake likes or follows, or misleading links.
  • No getting around enforcement. Don't use another account to get around a mute, suspension or block.
  • No hacking. Don't try to break into accounts, spread malware or get around Coldge's security.
  • Report honestly. No false reports, and no reporting someone just to harass them.
  • Academic integrity. Follow your university's academic integrity rules. Don't share exam questions or answers, buy or sell assignments, or offer to do someone else's coursework.

D.Keep people safe

  • Self-harm. Don't encourage or give instructions for suicide, self-harm or eating disorders. If you're struggling, talk to someone you trust or your university's counselling service. In immediate danger, call 999.
  • Violence and dangerous challenges. Don't praise or encourage violence or stunts that could hurt someone, or share graphic violence or images of accident victims.
  • Child safety. Coldge has zero tolerance for anything that sexualises or endangers children. See the Coldge child safety standards below.

E.Groups, channels, events and Drive

  • Group admins are responsible for their groups. Keep the name, photo, description and messages within these rules; you can delete messages and mute or remove members.
  • Discoverable groups are public. New groups are discoverable and open to every university unless you change that. Anyone in a discoverable group's audience can find it and, once they join, read its history, and Coldge can read it too. Making a group private protects only messages sent afterwards.
  • Only add people who want to be there. If someone adds you to a group you don't want, leave it.
  • Organization channels speak for the organization. Keep posts accurate, follow your university's rules for student organizations, and remember the fundraising and promotion rules above.
  • Events must be real and accurate. An event's exact place is shown to everyone who can see it, by default anyone signed in to Coldge, so never list a private home address.
  • University Drive files are shared with your university. Everyone at your university on Coldge can see and download what you upload. No malware, no course material you aren't allowed to share, and no one else's personal information. Drive files are scanned for malware, but a file can be visible before its scan finishes. Files found to contain malware are deleted, and we keep a record of who uploaded them.

Coldge child safety standards

Coldge prohibits child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) of any kind, anywhere on Coldge, including in private and end-to-end encrypted chats. A child is anyone under 18. This includes:

  • creating, sharing, requesting or possessing sexual images or videos of anyone under 18 (child sexual abuse material, or CSAM);
  • grooming, which means building a minor's trust in order to exploit them;
  • sextortion, which means threatening to share intimate images to get more images, money or anything else;
  • sexualised comments about minors;
  • any attempt to arrange sexual contact with a minor;
  • trafficking or exploiting children in any other way.

How Coldge finds it. We act on reports from members and on content our moderators can see: posts, comments, profiles, events, discoverable groups, channels and any message someone reports. Direct chats, private groups and class chats are end-to-end encrypted, so we can't see or scan them. When you report a message, a readable copy reaches our moderators and the university involved, so they can review it.

What Coldge does. When we become aware of CSAE or CSAM, we:

  • remove the content;
  • permanently remove the account from Coldge;
  • preserve the information the law requires;
  • report it to the UAE authorities: the Ministry of Interior's Child Protection Centre (116111) and the police;
  • cooperate with their investigation.

What you should do.

  • Report it in the app straight away and choose "Someone may be in danger".
  • Don't screenshot, forward, download or save it, not even to show someone. In the UAE, possessing this material is itself a crime. Your report sends us what we need.
  • If a child is in immediate danger, call 999. To report child abuse, call the Child Protection Centre on 116111.

Contact. Send child safety concerns about Coldge to support@coldge.com. Never attach the material itself.

04

How reporting works

Coldge doesn't automatically scan or filter what people post for harmful content. Moderation starts with a report or with something a moderator sees, so your reports matter.

A.What you can report

You can report a message, post, comment, person, group, event, organization or file. Use Report on the item or the person's profile, choose the category that fits best, and write a short reason. People review reports, so if someone is in immediate danger, call 999 first.

B.Who reviews it

  • Coldge receives every report.
  • University staff also review most reports, at the university the reported person or content belongs to (which may not be yours).
  • Some reports go only to Coldge, such as a direct chat or an All Universities group reported as a whole.
  • Group admins don't receive reports, but they can delete messages and mute or remove members in their own groups.

C.What reporting shares

  • Reporting a message shares a readable copy of it, plus up to 10 messages before it and 10 after it in that chat, including other people's messages, photos, videos and files. This happens in end-to-end encrypted chats too.
  • Reporting a person or a group can also share the last 10 messages of your chat. This is ticked by default, and you can untick it.
  • Coldge's and the university's moderators can read these copies, which are kept with the report with no time limit.
  • Reviewers can see who made a report. The person you report isn't told it was you, but in a direct chat they may be able to work it out.
  • After the review, you're told either that action was taken or that the item doesn't break these guidelines, but not what the action was.

D.Blocking

You can block someone from their profile. Once you do:

  • neither of you can message, call or react to the other in your direct chat;
  • they can't add you to groups, except organization groups;
  • you're hidden from each other in people search and mentions, and each other's personal posts, comments and events are hidden;
  • neither of you sees the other's online status or last seen.

Blocking doesn't remove either of you from groups or channels you share, and it never hides an organization's posts. You can see who you've blocked in Profile, Privacy, Blocked.

05

What happens when rules are broken

Depending on how serious it is, reviewers may:

  • remove content, such as a post, comment, event, message or file;
  • mute your account for 24 hours, 3 days, 1 week or until it's lifted, so you can't send messages or create content (your university's staff can mute their members, and Coldge can mute anyone);
  • mute or remove you in a group, which group admins can do in their own groups;
  • suspend your account for 7 days, 30 days or permanently, so you can't sign in and your posts, comments and events are hidden (only Coldge suspends accounts);
  • end your university access, now or on a set date, with or without a block on rejoining (your university's administrators decide this, and your Coldge account stays open);
  • suspend a group or organization, or delete an organization;
  • sign an account out of its devices (Coldge only).

You're told about these actions in the app, with the reason, any message from the reviewer and a contact address. The exceptions are group admins' actions, which show only as a line in the group or not at all, and signing an account out. A suspension or the end of your university access is also emailed to your personal and university addresses. Timed mutes and suspensions end automatically.

Coldge keeps a record of each account's reports, mutes and suspensions. Your university's staff see their university's part, and Coldge sees all of it. It helps reviewers spot repeated behaviour and never triggers an action by itself.

We report serious crimes, and always child sexual abuse material, to the UAE authorities, and we cooperate with them.

There's no appeal form in the app. To question a decision, email support@coldge.com with what happened and which notice you received. If your university made the decision, you can also write to the contact address shown in the notice.

06

If you're 16 or 17

UAE law treats you as a child until you turn 18. You can use Coldge, but please talk to a parent or guardian about it.

Coldge has no age checks or separate settings for under-18s yet. We are adding age checks and extra protections for members under 18, as UAE law requires. Until then, your defaults are the same as everyone's:

  • members at any university on Coldge can message or call you, and there are no message requests;
  • people can add you to some groups without asking first;
  • your phone number is visible to every member until you change it;
  • while Online Status is on, signed-in members can see whether you're online and when you were last seen.

Here's what you can do today:

  • In Profile, Privacy, set Phone Number Visibility to Messaged or No One, and turn off Online Status and Show Me in Most Active.
  • Choose "My university" as the audience for your posts, and make your groups private.
  • Block anyone who makes you uncomfortable, and leave any group you don't want to be in.
  • Report anyone who asks for photos or secrecy, offers money or gifts, or wants to meet you alone, and tell an adult you trust.
  • If you're in danger, call 999. You can also call the Child Protection Centre on 116111.
